Design and Comfort
EarFun Air Pro 4 shows significant improvements compared to the bulky case of the Air Pro 3. The design is slimmer and lighter offering a more comfortable feel. The review unit I have is black, but it’s also available in white. Despite being made of plastic, the case feels premium and doesn’t attract dust easily. The front has three LED lights indicating battery status, with the EarFun logo on top. Inside the case, each earbud slot has its own LED light to show the connection status.
As for the earbuds’ design, the new Air Pro 4 doesn’t show major changes compared to the Air Pro 3. They look similar but are slightly lighter and smaller. Each earbud features the EarFun logo, and the touch-sensitive areas no longer have the ring light from the Air Pro 3, likely to improve battery life. The build quality is excellent and also IPX5 water resistance ensuring protection from sweat without any issues.
I’ve been using them throughout the past week and found them extremely comfortable. They fit well in my ears, and even after long hours of use, I didn’t experience any discomfort or itching.
Setup and Connection
Connecting to your phone is simple: just open the case, turn on Bluetooth on your phone, and select EarFun Air Pro 4. The setup takes only seconds. With Bluetooth 5.4 and Google Fast Pair, the connection is fast and easy. and they support AuraCast and LE Audio, although there are currently issues with devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and Google Pixel 8 series.
You have multi-point connectivity allowing connect two devices simultaneously, such as a phone and a tablet or laptop. In my testing, the multipoint connection worked well. I connected both my Android device and laptop, and the earbuds seamlessly switched between playing music on my phone and audio from videos on the laptop. However, note that with multipoint connectivity, you won’t be able to enjoy LDAC audio quality, but Qualcomm aptX sound is available.
Audio Quality
The Air Pro 4 earbuds feature 10mm composite drivers and support high-resolution LDAC audio and Qualcomm aptX sound, providing a lossless connection and an exceptional HD audio experience. The sound quality clear, crisp and loud without any distortion. The bass is particularly impressive especially for music genres like EDM and DJ. However, as mentioned above, using multipoint connections disables LDAC audio.
Overall, the sound quality is similar to premium earbuds like the Sony WF-1000XM4, Pixel Buds Pro, and Huawei FreeBuds 4, with little noticeable difference from AirPods—all for just $79.
MIC Test
The Air Pro 4 features six microphones with cVc™ 8.0 ENC technology and an AI algorithm for clear calls. In my testing, they provided an impressively loud and clear call experience.
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
The new wireless earbuds from EarFun feature Qualcomm’s latest adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation technology, capable of reducing noise by up to 50dB with QuietSmart™ 3.0. The app offers Normal, Ambient, and Noise Cancellation modes, with five different noise cancellation options: Strong Noise Cancellation, Balanced Noise Cancellation, AI Environmental Adaptive Noise Cancellation, AI Ear Adaptive Noise Cancellation, and Wind Noise Reduction. I tested these modes in my office, which experiences traffic noise and the sound of workers loading trucks, but the strong noise cancellation effectively reduced background noise, even at lower volume levels. The different noise cancellation levels adapt well to various environments, ensuring a quiet listening experience.
Earfun Audio App Support
We have support for the EarFun Audio app, which you can download from the Play Store. In the app, you can view the battery status for each earbud and the case. Then, you have ANC options and a Game Mode, which can provide smooth gameplay with latency as low as 55 milliseconds.
Next, we have one of the most important features you don’t usually find in budget earbuds: in-ear detection. The app detects whether the earbuds are in your ears or not. When you remove the earbuds, the audio automatically pauses, and when you put them back in, it resumes playback. We also have the EarFun equalizer. In the sound equalizer, you have various preset options, from rock, pop, and country to bass boost and treble boost, and you can also set a custom EQ profile and a new personalized audio profile.
Then we have touch control options, which you can customize as you like, dual device connectivity, and Bluetooth sound quality, where you can choose between LDAC, Qualcomm aptX, or even a stable connection option. You also have the option to select the microphone, either automatic or manual, and to set up voice prompts, LE Audio, find the earbuds, download firmware updates, or even a factory reset option in case any issues arise. Overall, the EarFun Audio app provides all the essential features we need.
Battery Life
The EarFun Air Pro 4 earbuds claim to offer 11 hours of playback per charge and a total of 41 hours with the case, amounting to 55 hours of total playtime. I tested them from 100% to 70% and got 3 hours of playback without ANC, with performance dropping by about 25 minutes when ANC was activated. So, they almost deliver as claimed. The case has USB-C port, and also support wireless charging.
Overall, the EarFun Air Pro 4 offers impressive features and performance for its price of $89, making it a strong contender in the budget wireless earbud market. It strikes a balance between quality and affordability, though it may be slightly less advanced in some aspects compared to premium models.
